Proud parents glad to see Meggie Ochoa rise beyond the mats

For Jobert and Lee Ochoa, they’re more than delighted to see their daughter succeed both on and off the mats.

The proud parents of BJJ world champ Meggie Ochoa saw how their daughter was received well the media following her historic victory in Sweden. At the same time, they also witnessed how her “Fight to Protect” campaign got a positive reception from the public. They expressed their joy in seeing the multi-time Brazilian Jiu Jitsu world champion do remarkable things outside the sport.

“Sino ba naman ang hindi magiging proud, diba?” Mrs. Ochoa said when was asked by RealFight PH, “Also, we’re part of the Catholic Charismatic Community and at least, nakita namin yung values that we’ve instilled in our daughter, lumabas sa kanyang advocacy. So it’s beyond her winnings, at least nakita namin na we did well by teaching her the right values.”

Their daughter’s heart of gold is nothing new for them. In fact, it was something which they have been ingraining to their four other children. And like her siblings, the 28-year old Ochoa exemplified such character even prior to her “Fight to Protect” campaign.

For them, seeing her achieve such great things aside from her victories as an athlete gives them a sense of accomplishment for raising them well. They hope that it would only continue and she would continue her positive role to the society.

“Of course we’re very proud of her because one of the things that we’ve taught our children is to be selfless and to find their purpose. Actually, we have five and each of them have their own characters and they seem to have found their purpose and they’re selfless,” Said Mr. Ochoa.

“I hope Meggie becomes an example to the youth who seem to be having their problems in finding their purpose. We’re so proud of Meggie that she’s become a good example for the youth in looking for their purpose.”
