Top welterweights headline UFC London

Octagon welterweights Till, Masvidal, Nelson and Edwards seek to improve their case for the title at UFC London.

Four top Octagon contenders at 170-pounds take centerstage for UFC London this summer. Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White first confirmed to ESPN.

United Kingdom’s own Darren Till and Leon Edwards aim to climb up the welterweight ladder while defending their home turf. Looking to re-establish his position for the belt once again is Liverpool’s Till. He last fought in September, falling short in his first crack at the gold against Tyron Woodley via second-round submission. He meets number nine-ranked Jorge Masvidal.

Masvidal for his part, tries to end his two-fight skid and returns to the cage after being idle last year. Prior to the setback, “Gamebred” scored three straight victories across his name.

“The Gorilla” will be joined by the Birmingham-native Leon Edwards, who gets back into the saddle following his five-round war with Donald Cerrone in Singapore. He will look to extend his two-year, six-bout winning run as he takes on Icelands’ Gunnar Nelson. Both Edwards and Nelson are ranked tenth and twelveth, respectively.

Apart from the two pivotal match-ups, Volkan Oezdemir and Dominick Reyes go toe-to-toe in their light-heavyweight showdown. In addition, former Glory champion Gokhan Saki returns to his MMA stomping grounds opposite Saparbeg Safarov

This marks the promotion’s tenth event held in the city and twenty-third overall in the country. The fights takes place on March 16, 2019 at the O2 Arena.
