The UFC’s efforts to cement its presence in Asia continues by building its second Performance Institute.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s expansion to Asia continues. Apart from staging events in the region, the promotion has started to plant the seeds in hopes of having its first ever UFC champion from the region.

Today, UFC announces its plans of opening another branch of the UFC Performance Institute. The state-of-the-art center aims to provide an all-in-one venue for athletes to maximize their potential. And for the very first time, Asia gets the nod for its second branch in Shanghai.

“UFC Performance Institute Shanghai demonstrates UFC’s strong commitment to China and our significant investment in the Asia-Pacific region,” said UFC Chief Operating Officer Lawrence Epstein. “This facility will not only give us the ability to train the next generation of Chinese MMA stars, but it will be a major attraction to fans in the region and allow them to interact with our brand in an authentic way.”

A 93,000 square foot facility is targeted to be built in the Chinese metropolis next year. The multi-million dollar project would house a complete, inter-disciplinary group of coaches that would cater to the needs of fighters. Former UFC light-heavyweight champion and Hall of Famer Forrest Griffin was consulted for the formation of the team.

Not to mention, UFC PI – Shanghai also have in-house production resources for the promotion to host events and hold original programming content similar to the Ultimate Fighter and Dana White’s Contender Series.
